On dealing with others.

A disposition of The Chief (2007) - AIR,JR

On conversation:

When you're talking and his presenting his view, let him/her talk up to the end of his idea. Then that's the time to respond.

On disposition:

Always have a glad and happy disposition to meet people :)

On preparedeness

I have been caught 3 times on how important it is to be prepared:

1. During the time that I entered one (1) organization.

2. During the exam (3rd degree eligibility).

3. During the Assessment re that exam.

-- maybe, even in relationship...

I know My Lord is teaching me this lesson in life... hopefully, I'll learn though Him also.

Thanks

Transferred to a new Computer

It has been quite a while since I post a blog.

I've transferred to a new computer and using Vista Now.

I wanted to downgrade my OS to XP since Vista requires huge resources.

But without luck!

I've tried the following:
- Used an XP home SP2 installer but the installer cannot detect HDD in my new PC. I don't know why?
- Format the PC with a Win98 since I also have an upgrade version of XP.
But during the upgrade process, my PC hangs (blue screen) regarding a certain error in the HDD. Another dead end!
- Read some info on the net on how to uninstall Vista to include using vista installer and canceling installation after deleting the partition... No luck also...
- Have tried to use killdisk to remove the entire NTFS partition created by Vista but during the installation of my XP home SP2 installer, still cannot detect my HDD.
(Now, I'm consuming quite a lot of my time to uninstall Vista and install XP)....

I then resolve to use again Vista... -- Until the next time I thinker with you again!

Letter Writing Tips

I used to write commos usually office memos but from time-to-time I would be tasked to write formal letters (civilian or business type).

I've seen this site and posting their tips on writing for easy reference: (http://www.write-for-business.com/WritingTips.html)

Here are a few useful tips for you. Whether you are writing a personal or business letter, a report, a memo or an e-mail, it's good to keep these guidelines in mind.

Make a plan. Stop and think before you start writing. Make a note of the points you want to make in a logical order.

Use everyday English wherever
possible
. Avoid jargon and legalistic words, and explain any technical terms you have to use.

Identify your reader.
The tone that you choose for your correspondence will depend on the relationship you have with your reader: to a subordinate you can give an order, to a superior you can only recommend or request.

Take care which modal verbs you use. Modal verbs such as 'must' and 'will' are suitable for orders; 'should', 'could', and 'may' are suitable for recommendations and requests.

Choose the right style.
Are you going to write formally, informally or with a neutral style? Be consistent with your chosen style throughout the whole document.

The degree of formality may depend on what you are writing:

Brief personal message to a very close colleague
  • informal
  • longer report to a colleague and/or for file
  • informal / neutral
  • Official company document or letter to a customer
  • neutral / formal
Be concise.
Don't use fifty words when you could use five. Sentences that are too long are difficult to read.

Use paragraphs.
Make sure you use paragraphs. They give the reader a chance to pause for thought. Try to keep to one main idea to a paragraph.

Check your spelling.
Poor spelling gives a bad impression. Remember that American English uses different spelling to British English. Whichever one you choose - be consistent!

Be polite.
Even if you are complaining, this is important. A polite complaint will get you much further than a rude one.

Use a good layout.
Set out your letter or report properly (address, dates, names, etc).

On being diligent

My office presented a letter of instruction for tasking purpose of different division for our upcoming activity - retirement honor.

We had been cautioned due to the fact that we overlooked some of the tasking because our reference was a previous activity like that.

LL:

1. Be always diligent and always consider changes in personnel and office setup (changes) especially if you have revision of plans.

2. Consider not just formatting but also content.

3. Then go through the revision again... be diligent.

Thanks Lord!

Ruben

On religion

Attended the church - VCF yesterday...

Met and talked with a good friend... We haven't seen for sometime. He is a community Organizer working in an NGO (God Bless you Bro. Eric Lazarte)

Our discussion is about evangelism and we have noted the following:

1. Islam religion have no evangelism like the Christian. Their way to propagate their religion is by territories and family ties. Although, it's their way of propagating their belief, we have observed though that the Islam religion still progress. The reason is in No. 2.

2. Many people still prefers Islam than Christianity -- its religion, its because, Islam religion is integrated in the way of life of its believer. In their daily life, their culture and trandition incorporates religious beliefs and practices. While for christian religion -- catholicism and others, religion is not integrated in their daily life, in such a way that their are people who are christian only during sundays and special religious celebrations/holidays.

GOD BLESS TO EVERYBODY!

Thank you Lord!

Transfer from Yahoo Photo to Flickr.

I've just transferred my Photos from Yahoo Photos to Flickr.

With the inconvenience brought about by Yahoo Photo Service closure, they have able to make their client still happy with their easy and convenient way of transferring Photos from Yahoo Photo to Flickr Photo services... I salute Yahoo! Good Job.

LL:

1. Inform your client in advance for them to be prepared and informed.
2. Make an appropriate additional (add-on) service to make the change acceptable.
- Yahoo one-click options -- transfer, download or via cd copy of photos.
3. Inform again your client of the initiation of the process.
- Via email, yahoo informed the client that process had been started.
- Via email, information that the process had been through.
4. Respect of privacy (rights) on an individual
- Yahoo have set all pictures to private...
5. Another add-on is a batch process setting of pics from private to public if the client wish to modify the property of their posted pics from private to public.
5. Overall... the process was clearly planned and implementation of change was acceptable to users/client.

Planning process observed:
- Information dissemination -- timely.
- Convenient and adaptability of proposed change - Automated system
- Continuous information from initial start to end of proposed change.
- Consideration of person (rights and privacy)
- Additional service - add-on

Overall, special consideration to others/clients/users!

Very good service for Yahoo!

Visionaries

These are people who allow themselves to travel forward through time to develop and act on something in preparation for the future.... Ex. The subway of New York constructed in 1935 and still usable 'til today...

Visionaries are people with passion and with a view of tomorrow...

Blogging Best Practice

Got this from http://www.silenceandvoice.com/blogging/

Posted by Jeffrey

Thanks Jeff.

Comment:

Blogging is just starting to interest me. While trying to find out how to post a pic in my blogger account using scribefire (have not yet figured out how, though...) - having the same problem as in item no. 3, I stumble upon this blog. I posted it here so that I can alway refer to it. Thanks again.

Ruben.

Liveblogging Best Practices

I have completely revised and added to my initial list of LiveBlogging Best Practices that I initially published on 6/26/07. This comes from feedback I received and having reflected on my learning from the 3 separate conferences I liveblogged. [this post was revised later in thesame day with another item (#15) added based on a comment from Robin Yap.]

Liveblogging Best Practices

  1. Have an extension cord. You never know how far away the outlet is.
  2. Plan on there NOT being any wireless Internet access.
Regardless of what may be expected or promised you never know what may happen with it, who may be downloading every DVD ever made and clogging the network in the process, and how even the most stable technology fails when we may need it most (not to mention when the access is "free" after a daily credit card payment).
  3. Use an offline blogging program.
I am using Ecto for this here. I also tried ScribeFire for Firefox, but I could not get the image uploading FTP to work to save me, and their help pages were not too helpful. I do not mind paying developers for their work, and think those who created Ecto certainly deserve what I paid them for what they delivered. As I am about to migrate from XP to
Vista, it is important to check compatibility (such as with Macs) and have a freely-available trial period.
  4. Have a fully-charged battery. This goes without saying, but often the unstated is forgotten or assumed!
  5. Create entry shells prior to the sessions. This way, you are assured to have the correct names of the sessions and the spelling of the participants for each entry.
  6. Disclose what editing is done later.
I consider myself a researcher-practitioner, and as such want full-disclosure of what I liveblog in real-time, as I conduct research with my entries as they are. These are real data, and as such it would be counter to the research process to go back and edit, spell-check, and otherwise clarify what happened at a previous time as the point of
liveblogging is to capture the experiences in real-time. Of course, if I am able to spell-check and otherwise edit as I go, then that is another situation.
  7. Distinguish between internal and external experiences.
I am a constructivist qualitative researcher, and as such do not believe the researcher can separate himself or herself from the research experience. When I am liveblogging a conference, I find myself writing about what I see, hear, and experience, as well as the
meaning-making that occurs in real-time. I cannot separate an objective happening from my perception of it, in that I do not believe there can be any objective meaning or experience apart from one who experiences it. In practical terms, I can record what I hear and what strikes me, but then I often begin to process the experience and add to the meaning-making event. This means that liveblogging makes me more than an active participant--the public-blogging and my ability to discuss my own thoughts and feelings of the event makes me in effect a co-presenter. [I think I will have to revisit this to try to develop it more]
  8. Have a camera and its sync-cord. While picture taking while liveblogging may be icing on the cake, it does add a nice touch.
  9. Have an international adapter/plug.
Liveblogging in Canada, for example, uses the same plugs as in the US. The AHRD conference I am liveblogging in England means I have another device I have to carry with me if I want to plug in.
  10. Adjust the computer time to the local time. I have blogged around the world, and prefer to capture the sessions in the real time where I am.
  11. Consider a hyper-link policy.
If I am liveblogging and there is wifi, then it is easy to add links to the presentations or papers or the people who present themselves, However, with the editing policy I listed above (see #7), determine how to find the links and add them, with full-disclosure, at some point in time. This allows the readers to try to see as much of what you experienced while it happens. If there is no wifi available, I consider it appropriate to add hyperlinks after the session when the Internet access is again available.
  12. Plan for breaks. I blogged with a laptop, and had to decide what I was going to do with it when I went to the restroom and getting coffee. Without a personal contact whom I could trust it with when using the restroom or otherwise, it came with me. I had to close it and carry it as a notebook (I wonder if that is how the name originated?)
  13. Get a comfortable seat. Liveblogging is tiring, so get comfortable because it will be a long session.
  14. Consider keywords carefully.
I have started to include Technorati keywords in all my posts, and use common keywords if they exist for the event, as well as names of participants and the primary topic. While I blog for many reasons, I want my experiences to be found by those in attendance or otherwise interested in the events I attend (if they so choose).
  15. Tag the posts with an agreed-upon tag.
Technology-related conferences often announce a unique tag that they encourage people to use when uploading posts or photos so they can be found by searchers and other attendees later. However, not all conferences or events do this. If not, create a unique tag for the
event that will be easy to locate and share it with anybody else liveblogging the event (for consistency). Finally, name it in a post so readers and potential searchers will see it.

This list is a work in process, and I hope to add to it as new issues arise or as feedback and research dictates.

Every endeavor has an ultimate goal!

I've been thinking of technology and life. What really is the ultimate goal of every endeavor or invention or activity in life and technology. Examples:

Technology -- Goal -- End/life goal

Computer -- Artificial Intelligence -- More like Us

Cellphone -- Worldwide commo -- No boundary/free commo

3-G -- Video/Pic/Audio/Data Transmission -- A feel and touch

Air Transpo -- Fast transpo -- Supersonic Travel and Space travel-vacation

Land transpo -- fast and convenient -- Flying car, flying man with special contraption and using renewable fuel.

Internet -- World commerce -- Single currency, anything you want to buy,
-- World commo -- Free commo
-- World library -- Everything you want to know
-- World Wide Web -- A smaller world

SoHome -- Home work -- Application of PC in every aspect of home-life/entertainment (Single PC controlling everything): Security, utilities, tv/movie/video, music, and other home needs

Next is what really technology teaches us....

Mozilla Firefox --- Cool!

I had been using Mozilla Firefox up against other browsers for the reason that it is more secure particularly with the storage of web cache.

But right now, I've learned to use some extensions that is really cool! such are:

1. Scribefire - for my blog
2. Foxsaver - for my screensaver (with very small file signature)
3. Foxtune - for my music
4. Fotofox - for my photo upload to the internet
5. PDF download options ~ for options to: open or save pdf file in the web browser
6. Themes - for various options to modify theme for my browser.

I am yet to experiment more add-on of firefox and hopefully I'll not overload/burden firefox in its main function as web browser with regards to opening the browser and loading webpages.

Learning Experiences

Okay, with regard to my current experiences and lesson learned, I think I better post some so that I will not forget them:

Lesson learned:

1. Procrastination ~ On answering an appointment, if you will prefer it today or tomorrow. You better answer with an open-ended answer so that he/she will be the one to tell if you have to do it today or other day. (On meeting somebody -- today or other day)

2. Practice what you teach - I alway though that I am in control of myself. I teach my kids the basic of driving: S -- Safety first; A -- be Alert, always; and R -- Relax and be cool, dont lose your patience. But, in one instance, while I'm driving a marked vehicle, I thought I must assert the authority of my vehicle, and overpassed some cars. Not knowing that it was to late to avoid a mishap. The car I was driving was side swipe by a 10-wheeler truck while turning. Fotrunately -- or may I say its a God's blessing while teaching me lesson of life, the truck shoulder all the insurance for the repair of the vehicle. I was not hurt during the accident, but it took a while before I am comfortable again in my driving.

3. Pocket your smile ~ I been cautioned twice on smiling while there's an environment of pressure. I've learned that you should keep your smile to yourself eventhough there is something to smile at.

4. Expectation ~ Never expect too much or you will be discouraged. Expect little so that if greater things happened your will really appreciate them.

5. Life is a Gift ~ While reading a book -- God little devotional book, I read about how some cancer patients can still live life and be happy, especially children. It is because they live their life not as a right or privilege, but as a gift... Just look how they can still smile and laugh.

That's all... I have to remember others...

Ouline of Workflow? - Management Question

I have partly finished my work in a Manual particularly on our office procedures and definitions. Although we already have an existing administrative manual, we had been introduced to a new outline format to follow in writing our workflow. I have already posted the outline in Yahoo Answer but have failed to gain answer on my query on where can I get reference regarding the outline. Our outline is as follows:
I. Objective
II. References
III. Definition of Terms
IV. Requirements
V. Flowchart
VI. Narrative
VII. Service Standard
VIII. Sample Format
